My dad has a substance abuse problem. He is addicted to narcotics. He eats pills by the handfuls. He'll then fall asleep on the couch with a cigarette. Or he'll try to talk to you and not make a bit of sense. Just blurbs and blobs of odd consonants. I am usually the one to view this activity because he will not do it around other people in the family. Does this make me an enabler? Probably. I suppose. When my mother died it left a great big gaping hole in all of our lives. He has steadily gotten worse. He sat in front of me today and said "I'm fixin' to take your brother and make a straight gaited criminal out of him." I shivered. It sent waves of frozen terror through me. I know that he will try. My brother in question is currently waiting out an undetermined amount of time in our local county jail. Charges all stemming from his own addiction to the very same drugs. Hmmm.... He sat in front of me and told me he was going to live a complete crimin
Sister Helen Prejean: Regarding Cathy Henderson "This is February and Cathy is alive. In twenty more days it will be March, and she will be alive all through March. But then April comes, and if the state of Texas and the courts have their way Cathy Henderson is not going to live past April 18th." Cathy is not one that I talk with. I do write others there though. What do you think of this article and what Sister Helen says? And now this one- Cathy Henderson Lives! What are your thoughts on this outcome?

Kelly "Turtle" Tibbs and her Chick Posse

Anybody ever hear about Kelly Tibbs? I read about her case years ago and was recently contacted by a friend of hers. I got to thinking about her again. I cant really believe she didnt get the death penalty. She was a lesbian ring leader in her little town. She and her teenage friends were a little crew of lesbians that hung together and lived together. None had a steady home, all were from broken families somehow torn by substance problems or abuse or just plain neglect. Kelly was the leader. Her nickname "Turtle" was the name she went by exclusively and all her followers tatooed a tiny turtle on their hands. This group was so odd. They were PeterPans lost boys and Turtle was peter pan. They traveled in packs and found food and lodging when they could. Everything was a game and they frolicked around everywhere they went. Eventually a new girl came into the mix and began a half-assed relationship with one of the other girls. Emotions flew and she got murdered. Beat to de

Invisible Realities, Forgotten Voices: The Women on Death Row

Invisible Realities, Forgotten Voices: The Women on Death Row This book is a 2006 release but the study is fascinating. Women on death row and their harrowing stories of domestic violence and abuse, extreme hardships endured in silence, and childhood traumas are the focus of a new, groundbreaking study launched today by the Philippine Human Rights Information Center (PhilRights) and Women’s Education, Development Productivity and Research Organization (WEDPRO). Timed for the celebration of Mother’s Day … the book, titled “Invisible Realities, Forgotten Voices: The Women on Death Row from a Gender and Rights-based Perspective” is a product of a year-long research among inmates at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong who have been meted the death penalty [1] since it was restored on January 1, 1994.
Im tickled to find another crime blog that I have fallen in love with Its awsome and I have found myself spending a few minuets every day there. It is www.badgirlscrimeblog.com I cam across it quite by accident and have found it a true joy and a procrastinators best friend. Sigh... another one. I received a letter from Michelle Byrom last week where she apologizes again for the person who wrote her and told her bad things about me. Mainly she was of a new mind about me becuase one of her cousins- someone she had grown up with had written to her and said she was a reader of my blog. That she enjoyed what I did. That is wonderful. It really makes my day. Because she read my blog and read about Michelle and what she was going through she wrote to the cousin she had grown up with but hadnt seen in years for support and comfort to her. How awsome is that?
